St George´s Day (Sant Jordi 2018) - Barcelona popular festivals

Sant Jordi or Saint Jorge´s day is much more than just a festival event in Barcelona. It's the Catalan equivalent to Valentine's Day, Every year, the streets of the city are filled with people walking through mythical places in the city among street markets with books and roses wrapped in ribbons with the colors of the Catalonia flag ( La Senyera). Celebrating one of the most important festivals in Catalonia since 1456, in which it is customary to give a rose to women as a symbol of love and a book for men. On April 23 it is celebrated the Day of the book, a day commemorating the death of two great writers of the history of literature: Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.
