Actually, here’s a tip: every first Monday of the month, most of Barcelona’s museums are free, so if you are planning to visit our city and you want to enjoy its museums, you know now when to do it. Culture and knowledge in CCBC

One of Barcelona’s most well known museums is CCCB, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. In fact, is one of the most visited museums in Barcelona, and the favourite one of its kind: exhibition and arts centres. So if you are interested in modern art, you don’t have to miss this.

Where is CCCB?

The CCCB is located in the Raval, one of Barcelona’s most daring neighbourhoods. It’s in the heart of the city, downtown, and their mixture of cultures and people from many countries makes the location of the museum more logical.

The core theme of CCCB is the city of Barcelona and the urban culture. They do not want quantity but quality, so they chose very carefully the exhibits and activities that they do.

The building has over 15.000 square meters, and 4.000 of them are dedicated to the exhibits. The rest is occupied by the auditorium, the bookstore and many lecture rooms. Next to the CCCB you can find the library and research center, fully equipped. Also, the CCCB also occupies part of the old Casa de Caritat, an almshouse which stopped being one in 1957.

In 1993, the redesign of the CCCB by architects Helio Piñón and Albert Viaplana won the Ciutat de Barcelona and FAD Architecture Prizes.

CCCB’s bookstore is one of the best shops in Barcelona if you like art. You won’t find only books, but many inspirational things and objects in the world of art. If you want to make a gift to someone special, you should check it out. You’d be surprised.

The CCCB plaza is many times used by skaters to practice their skills on the board. Don’t be afraid, they are welcoming, and they do not disturb any citizen that passes through. There is enough space for everyone in the plaça del CCCB. And also, these skaters give the city a very urban and modern look that was generated spontaneously.

Modern culture finds its own place at the CCCB in the heart of Barcelona. Even if you are visiting for a few days, it’s worth taking a walk through its exhibition and the amazing spaces surrounding the area. Let yourself into the world of contemporary art. Are you ready?
